Inauguration of a unique X-ray generator in France |
Inauguration of a unique X-ray generator in France On November the 29th, the Structural Biophysico-chemistry platform inaugurated at the IECB its new microfocus X-ray generator, a high performance equipment unique in France. This inauguration day was organized in partnership with Rigaku and Elexience, the two leading suppliers of this new equipment. About forty guests (researchers, companies and institutional bodies) attended the event. They visited the new outstanding facilities and listened to a series of scientific conferences given by researchers from Southampton, Marseille, Geneva and Barcelona. This new equipment allows a structural characterization with high resolution of foldamers, biological macromolecules (proteins, nucleic acids, …) and complex assemblies, crystalline materials or in solution (monocristals, liquid crystals, colloids, …). In addition it offers scientists and researchers an alternative to synchrotron light source, which access is more difficult to get. This project has received funding from the European Commission within the framework of an ERC Advanced Grant awarded by Ivan Huc, group leader and co-director of the IECB. The Aquitaine Regional Council, the LabEx of Bordeaux University, the Simone et Cino del Duca Foundation and the CNRS added the supplement the funding needed.
